How zodiac compatibility is calculated
In traditional astrology a sign pair is read on three axes. Nothing here is measured or predictive: these are the symbolic rules the tradition has used since Ptolemy set them out in the second-century Tetrabiblos.
- Element. Each sign belongs to Fire, Earth, Air, or Water. Two signs of the same element share an instinct. Fire and Air reinforce each other, and Earth and Water nourish each other, so those are read as the complementary pairs. Fire with Water, Fire with Earth, Air with Earth, and Air with Water are read as contrasting.
- Modality. Each sign is Cardinal (starts things), Fixed (holds and sustains), or Mutable (adapts). Two signs of the same modality operate the same way, which can mean deep understanding or a standoff. Different modalities tend to balance one another.
- Aspect. The angle between the two signs on the 360-degree wheel. A trine (120 degrees, always the same element) is read as the smoothest, a sextile (60 degrees) as easy and encouraging, a square (90 degrees) as productive friction, and an opposition (180 degrees) as magnetic attraction across a shared axis.

A note on what this does and does not mean
There is no scientific evidence that sun-sign pairing predicts how two people actually get along. What this checker reports is a symbolic tradition, a set of rules for combining elements, modalities, and angles that astrologers have used for centuries. It is genuinely old and genuinely interesting as cultural history. It is not a measurement of a relationship.
Read it the way you would read a tarot card or a myth: as a prompt for reflection and a shared language, not a verdict. Two people of any two signs can build something durable, and a smooth traditional reading has never done the work for anyone.
